Our brochure provides invaluable information on eligibility, benefits, other funding available, payment information, how to get your benefits started at 皇家华人 State University and other important details concerning your Educational Benefits.

Students who would like to take classes at a different institution must first be approved by VSU to do so. Students should contact their Academic Advisor to discuss this process and to complete the Transient Request form. Once approved, the student will need to complete additional steps if they wish to also use VA Education Benefits at the other school:

  • Email va@valdosta.edu to request a VA Parent Letter.
  • The email should include all of the following:
    • Student Name
    • Student VSU ID Number
    • Chapter of VA Education Benefits being used (Example: Post 9/11 GI BILL®)
    • Guest School's Name (Wiregrass, Georgia Military College, etc.)
    • Class information (needed for each course taken at the guest school and what it is equal to at VSU). This should include:
      • Class Number (Example: POLS503)
      • Class Name (Example: Business and Government)
  • Once the VSU VA Office has reviewed and approved the request, a VA Parent Letter will be emailed directly to the student. This letter should then be provided to the VA Certifying Official at the guest school. That school's official will review your class registration and submit your enrollment enformation directly to the Department of Veterans Affairs for benefit payment.
  • For more detailed instructions, please click here.

A new checklist must be submitted for each semester you plan to attend VSU. The checklist indicates to our office that you would like to continue receiving VA benefits during the upcoming term. In addition to submitting a checklist, certain benefits (such as the Post 9/11 GI Bill®) require a current Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to be submitted to the Office of Veterans Affairs each semester. Upon receiving this checklist, we will review course and degree program informaiton prior to submitting official enrollment data to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Upon review, if additional information is required, our office will contact you via email. Students that do not wish to use their VA benefits, should not submit a checklist.

We will begin submitting enrollment data to the Department of Veterans Affairs for each semester according to the timeline below:

Summer Semester:      Second week of April

Fall Semester:             First week of August

Spring Semester:        Second week of December

The checklist is designed to be completed fully online. For students that are unable to access the checklist in the online portal, a paper version is also available. For further instructions and to submit the checklist, please click the link below.

Please visit  to determine standard full time monthly benefit payments.

Monthly benefits are determined by the number of credit hours a student takes and the start/end dates of courses. These credit hours and dates of enrollment are reported by the school, to the Department of Veterans Affairs, where final determination is made for payment.

If you have further questions about being full time and how the Rate of Pursuit is used to calculate your VA payments, please call the VA directly at 1-888-442-4551.

皇家华人 State University participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which addresses the gap between in and out-of-state tuition. If you are not approved for in-state tuition, and are being charged higher out-of-state costs, please contact our office for more information about how the Yellow Ribbon Program may help you.
